Flex Allowance

If your CarePlus plan includes this benefit, you will receive a pre-paid CarePlus Spending Account Card. You can use your yearly Flex Allowance to pay out-of-pocket expenses for covered dental, vision, and hearing services at participating providers.

If your plan includes the Flex Allowance, you can use it toward out-of-pocket costs for covered dental, vision, or hearing products and services. You can even use it to help cover the difference if your expenses exceed the amounts covered by your plan’s dental, vision, or hearing benefits.

Copays, if applicable, for supplemental dental, vision, or hearing services
Preventive and Comprehensive Dental care
Hearing exams and hearing aids
Vision exams and eyeglasses or contacts

These are just a few examples. Covered services and amounts vary depending on your plan and area of residence. Limitations and restrictions may apply. If your plan covers two dental crowns at a $0 copay but you need a third crown, you can use this allowance to help pay for any costs associated with getting a third crown.

If your plan covers a $200 pair of eyeglasses, but the glasses cost $250, you can use this allowance to help cover the difference.

If your plan covers a $1,000 hearing aid, but the hearing aid costs $1,200, you can use this allowance to help cover the difference.

If your plan does not cover dental implants, then the allowance cannot be used toward dental implants.

This allowance cannot be used for procedures such as cosmetic dentistry and teeth whitening, or any services not covered by your plan.

The Flex Allowance can be used at participating dental, vision, and hearing providers who:

Are in the CarePlus network;
Accept Visa® payments; and
Who's main business is dental care, vision services, or hearing care.

Before using your CarePlus Spending Account Card to apply Flex Allowance funds, show your CarePlus Member ID card information to your provider. This will ensure that your health plan is billed before your card is charged.

When it’s time to pay, swipe your CarePlus Spending Account Card at participating dental, vision, or hearing offices. When paying online, enter your spending account card’s 16-digit Visa card number and 3-digit CVV security code.

The Flex Allowance is available once you activate your CarePlus Spending Account Card.

You have until December 31 of the plan year to spend your allowance funds. The Flex Allowance can only be used for the current plan year. Allowance funds cannot be used to pay for outstanding balances from the previous plan year, and funds do not roll over into the next year.

Any allowance amount can change or end if your plan enrollment changes, terminates, or a new plan year begins.

If you use Bill Pay through the Healthy Benefits+ website or by contacting Healthy Benefits+, the service provider may not receive payment for at least three weeks. The documented home address with your health plan must match the service address where you currently reside. CarePlus is not responsible for any fees or loss of service associated with late payments. Service fees may apply. Bill payment is not available for all utility and rental companies. Please check to confirm if your service provider is available.

Do not throw away your card. Please store it in a safe place, like your wallet. CarePlus is not responsible for funds lost due to lost or stolen cards. Benefits listed here are part of a Medicare Advantage plan.
