Before You Enroll

We are excited to welcome you to our CarePlus family. Before you join us, we want to help make sure this is the right health insurance choice for you.

You are welcome to call a licensed CarePlus sales agent for personal support. We will listen to your needs and help find a CarePlus Medicare Advantage that fits your needs. We know that choosing your health plan is an important and sometimes difficult decision, but we are here to help.

Here are a few things to consider as you get ready to enroll:

  • Prescription Drug Benefits – Many Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage through a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan. Most CarePlus Medicare Advantage plans are MAPD plans and include both medical and prescription drug coverage.

  • Premiums – Medicare beneficiaries pay a monthly premium for Medicare Part B (and, sometimes, Part A), unless someone else pays it on their behalf. All CarePlus plans for 2025 have a $0 monthly premium, meaning CarePlus members will not pay a separate monthly plan premium for their Medicare Advantage plan.

  • Late Enrollment Penalty – In some situations, Medicare beneficiaries are required to pay a late enrollment penalty because they did not join a Medicare drug plan when they first became eligible, or because they had a continuous period of 63 days or more that they did not have what Medicare defines as creditable prescription drug coverage. CarePlus is required to bill these members for the late enrollment penalty. Individuals receiving Extra Help do not pay a late enrollment penalty.

  • Effective Dates – Coverage typically becomes effective on the first day of the month after you apply. However, if you enroll in a plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), between October 15 and December 7, your coverage will become effective January 1 of the following year.

Please note that if you purchase a stand-alone prescription drug plan (PDP) while enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan that has prescription drug coverage, you will be automatically disenrolled from your Medicare Advantage plan.
